Ken Sim has failed transit riders. Our time is being lost to long and painful waits for late, slow, infrequent, and overcrowded buses. In one of the rainiest cities in the country, huge areas of the city have no bus shelters or benches. Fares are increasing year after year, and we have no low-income transit pass, unlike almost every other major city in Canada.

For too many of us, huge daily transit delays are wasting our lives just to get to and from work, school, medical appointments, and daycare.  This means that more people are choosing to take a car instead of the bus, driving up pollution and increasing traffic for everyone.

Ken Sim and ABC have chosen to keep up the barriers impacting t low-income people, seniors, and families t in this city, voting down Sean Orr’s motion for a free transit pilot project. Their priorities are handouts to the super-rich, not making life easier for people.

It doesn’t have to be this way. We can take our time back.

Vancouver needs a Mayor and City Council that will fight for public transit that works for everyone.

That is why COPE is fighting to:

  • Make transit fast and free.  In a climate crisis and an affordability crisis, free public transit is common sense. We’ll fight for free transit support from all levels of government, starting with low-income passes and fare-free routes.

  • Improve bus reliability, speed, and service. If we want people out of polluting cars and into public transportation, we need to improve bus service and make it safe, regular, and reliable.

  • Expand bus benches and shelters. Huge areas of the city have no bus shelters or benches, meaning that seniors and people with mobility challenges are getting soaked and tired with huge transit delays caused by budget cuts.

  • Grow and expand Skytrain and rapid transit. We want a future where fast and free transit connects public amenities, local shops, and affordable housing in every neighbourhood, including investments in SkyTrain extensions like UBCx.
